CAREER: Pharmacist

GRAD DATE: Aug 2020

    • September 1, 2019 – Yvannie had an internship this summer but she was more excited about continuing her Community Impact Project into the summer! Her project is teaching women handcrafting skills so they can be financially independent and able to sustain their families.
    • May 18, 2019 – This semester, I learned a lot through our monthly leadership trainings as they were all very special, interesting and very motivating… Something important I learned and which will be a lesson I hold onto is that if someone is living the Christian faith, and is living a life of integrity he/ she can be an effective leader and can also transform the community as well.
    • February 9, 2019 – When asked to define servant leadership, how that applies to her life now, and her future career, Yvannie said: “To me servant leadership is about serving others, leading by example. It is not waiting to be served or giving commands. A good servant leader focuses on the needs of others, before he considers his own. Maxwell said: ‘If serving is below you, leadership is beyond you’. Also Jesus said in Matthew 20:26 “Whoever wants to be a leader must be your servant”. Personally, God helping, I always give my best to make servant leadership a reality in my life. I love to serve! I know there are areas of my life where the Lord has placed me to lead and serve. I inquire from those ahead of me. I take as inspiration the great leaders in history and try to serve like them. I always value team work because it yields better results. In my future career, I will help those who are doing poorly to do well and to help those who are doing well to do even better. I will seek to involve others in decision making.”
    • November 19, 2018 – Yvannie wants to be known for leading by example and being someone who guides and inspires people to value themselves and use their strengths! This semester she hopes accomplish every assignment to the best of her ability!
    • July 7, 2018 – This last year was a difficult one for Yvannie, with a heavy school load she had to work really hard to complete all her assignments. She did this by studying, planning and managing her schedule well, and praying and trusting in God! This summer, she is looking forward to being home to spend time with her friends and family since it has been awhile since she has been able to see them! She will also be looking for an internship and preparing for her fourth year of university.
    • May 12, 2018 – Yvannie values God and family, because it is through family you have roots that anchor you and people who will always be there for you no matter what.
    • March 25, 2018 – When Yvannie was younger, she dreamt of becoming a pharmacist because she watched people in her village suffer due to the lack of access to medicine. In five years, she hopes to have her master’s degree in a field related to pharmacy, and working towards her dream of bring medicine to those in need!
    • February 27, 2018 – Yvannie said the person who inspires her the most is her mother. She said she is the strongest person she knows–no matter what the situation is she is never discouraged, and continues to work hard for the sake of her family!
    • January 25, 2018 – A book Yvannie read recently was Become a Better You by Joel Osteen. The part that stood out the most to her was how you can follow a divine destiny for your life.
    • December 18, 2017 – The Christmas season for Yvannie is a time to be with family, sharing food together and thanking God for what he has done! Yvannie thinks her friends would describe her as quiet and responsible, because she is not very talkative.

Yvannie’S CIRCLE

  • K. Sommer – Canby, OR

Yvannie grew up in a loving and respectful community where each person was an equal member of the family. She describes her community as the best thing that has ever happened to her. Her community taught her how to be loyal, hardworking, courageous, tenacious, and to serve others.

Yvannie is one of six children, and there were times her family has struggled to meet their needs. However, because her family values education so much, they made many sacrifices to pay their children’s school fees. Yvannie has always loved helping others, which motivated her dream of studying Pharmacy from a young age. She wants to make it a priority to give those in poor or rural areas access to the medicine and health care they need to survive. Her dream is to make health care available to every single person in her country!
