Jackline grew up in a family of four – her mom, two brothers, and herself. Her father hasn’t been part of her family for many years. Her mom makes a little money doing odd jobs and washing people’s hair in a salon. So, life has not been easy. There have been many times when it has been very difficult to provide the basic necessities of life, like food, let alone be able to pay school fees. But Jackline has continued to persevere through all of these challenges.

Jackline grew up in a poor, rural village in Rwanda’s Eastern Province. Most young people drop out of school. Continuing in school beyond the primary grades was rarely encouraged. In fact, Jackline is the first in her family to pursue a university education.

Jackline attends the University of Rwanda, where she is studying Nursing. Her dream is to improve access to quality healthcare in Rwanda’s rural villages.

Jackline loves to sing and is a member of her church’s choir. She also serves as an advisor for her church’s youth group.
