Emmanuel is the first-born in his family. His parents separated when he was young; and Emmanuel grew up with his father and step-mother. His father had six children from his second marriage. Emmanuel grew up in various regions in Rwanda, experiencing different people and geography. He believes these were enriching experiences that taught him well. Growing up, Emmanuel attended both day and boarding schools, which taught him to make friends with those around him, even if they are from different backgrounds. Members of his community faced many challenges, including insufficient access to water and electricity. Emmanuel watched as those in his community created solutions to address these issues. He hopes to continue this work in his community, saying “we are all the solutions we seek for our communities.” 

Now, Emmanuel attends East African University in Rwanda, studying Tourism and Hotel Management. Emmanuel has a deep passion for working in the hospitality industry, as it’s an area where he can interact with people with diverse backgrounds from around the globe. For Emmauel, this helps him to experience the world. Emmanuel hopes to create a financially independent life for himself, help his friends and family, and ultimately give back to his community. 

Emmanuel is active outside of the classroom as a volunteer with IDebate Rwanda, where he facilitates debate competitions in secondary schools. He’s active in several school clubs and is his class leader, responsible for helping to address his fellow students’ concerns. He also loves playing cricket!
