Divine grew up with his mother and two sisters. When he was seven years old, his father passed away, leaving his mother to raise them. Divine’s mother struggled with severe back pain and lost her job, presenting considerable challenges for his family. While his mother was eventually able to rent their house as a source of income, it was still a challenge to afford school fees. This was a difficult time for Divine and his family, however they have remained resilient and hopeful. Divine’s mother continues to remain a source of support for him and his siblings, encouraging them to pursue their dreams. 

Divine grew up in a quiet community with just a few shops and one pharmacy. Growing up, Divine often had to travel long distances for basic necessities, such as water. Eventually, more shops opened in the community and infrastructure improved. Divine says growing up in his community and seeing its transformation has given him “immense pride.” He credits his community with instilling in him a sense of determination and hope for his future. 

Now, Divine attends the University of Rwanda, studying Agricultural Land Irrigation Engineering. He chose this course of study because he believes this field plays a major role in community development. He also loves the constantly changing technology, pushing him to continuously learn and innovate. Divine hopes to use his degree to identify sustainable solutions, especially digital solutions, to improve green energy solutions in local communities. 

Outside of the classroom, Divine does monthly community service, helping to repair water drainage systems and planting trees. He also participates in youth seminars at his church and volunteers at his uncle’s shop.
