The Destinations

Kruger National Park - The Premier Safari Location In Southern Africa

After our overnight flight from the USA, and a night in Johannesburg, we will begin our journey with a safari to one of the great game parks of the world. Three days and two nights on photo safari will give us the opportunity to relax and adjust as we experience the safari of a lifetime searching for the Big Five (Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, Rhino and Leopard) and all the birds and animals Africa has to offer. Bring your camera and binoculars!

Johannesburg - The City of Gold

“Joburg,” also known as Egoli, is our next stop in South Africa. Two days and three nights will lead us to the Apartheid Museum in the black township of Soweto and the Voortrekker Monument outside Pretoria to explore the white Afrikaner experience. Both days, with their unique perspectives, will help us better understand South Africa’s history in ways most travelers never experience. We’ll be joined in Joburg by TNHF South African staff to help us begin to understand the critical role TNHF is playing in the development of this nation.

Cape Town - The Mother City

Here we’ll encounter These Numbers Have Faces scholars in their home town, AND explore one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Over six days and five nights, we’ll have an opportunity to spend time with TNHF staff and students in Cape Town, learning their hopes and dreams for the future of their nation. We'll visit the District Six Museum and sail to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned to learn more about South Africa’s transition from apartheid to democracy. A stunning 'safari' drive along the coast to Cape of Good Hope, the southern-most tip of the African continent, will showcase baboons, penguins, ostriches, whales, and more.

Time With TNHF - The Cape Flats Townships

While in Cape Town we'll enjoy time with our brilliant scholars and get an inside look into the TNHF program in the Cape Flats. Visits to local township schools, universities, and the personal homes of TNHF students will reveal the life-changing work of These Numbers Have Faces. This is an experience you definitely don't want to miss.

From Bob: “I am very excited to share with you the work of TNHF, up close and personal. Come with us to South Africa in 2011 to learn about the country and for a first-hand look at the important work of These Numbers Have Faces."

Concerned About The Cost?

South Africa is one of the most expensive places to fly in the world. Flights are roughly $2,000 each and there is simply no getting around it, especially during the great summer months in Southern Africa.

Besides a few meals on your own, the $5,990 covers pretty much everything for the trip. This includes flights, accommodation, transport, food, gratuity, the entire Safari at Kruger, and all the entrance fees to landmarks like Robben Island, The District 6 Museum, Apartheid Museum, Table Mountain Gondola, and more.

Additionally, you're paying for a safe, innovative, and world class guided tour of South Africa. You could probably visit South Africa on your own with guide books in hand for less money. But on the TNHF tour, everything is planned out and taken care of. Your only job is to engage, learn, and be changed in the process.

Lastly, you're supporting the work of These Numbers Have Faces. The price includes a $250 tax-deductible donation to TNHF that will pay for our staff to join you on the tour, help you experience life in the townships, and bring along TNHF students to many of the destinations around Cape Town.
